As for Redz comments, well, Bria’s already been on two covers, so I guess some magazine editors at King and BlackMen don’t agree. Yes, Brittany is hot, but she is far more commonplace than Bria. I could go to mall on the weekend in LA or NY and see a Brittany Daily any day. But a beautiful, chocolate sista like Bria with her unique facial features and insanely curvy body–not so common.
Anyway, as BlackJack said, it’s all a matter of opinion I suppose.
Icy I see what you are saying and me being half Trini I also love me some dark skin girls and wouldn’t mind seeing “pretty face” dark skin models on more covers (i.e. Kim Porter, Jessica White, Naomi Campbell etc). And Kale yea Bria has been on covers but with other females she has not covered BlackMen or King by herself like Angel, Esther, or Vida. Trust me I know I talk to Marcus Blassingame (editor of Black Men) and Jermaine Hall (editor of King) all the time cause I’m possibly gonna be interning for one of their magazines summer ’08.
And the difference between Brittany and Bria in MY (notice the word my) opinion is no doubt Bria got her from the hips down. But Brittany to me has a better face, chest, and for her size has a phat butt. Nah, you made your point with a lot intelligence. Only ask one thing, if you intern with BlackMen push for better printing! They use good photographers, models but that crappy paper and printing process they use holds them back. They’ld be better off using thinner paper and better priting like Smooth. They should give up on the thick paper thing if they ain’t going to pay for good thick paper. If they fixed that one thing maybe modernize their layout, I think they could take back the crown from Smooth and Show or at least make it a real horse race.
Redz, I am going to give ya a hard time on point about Bria. Bria was 14 on the Smooth list, Brittany was 88. The people have spoken!

I have also discussed Bria with Marcus and the editor of King a few times. I can tell you that her not being on a BM cover is as much about politics as anything else. Think about it: Bria is one of the most posted and talked about women in the urban scene since last year, irrespective of your opinion of her. She was the contender to the throne as the top eye candy in ’06. How could you run a magazine like BlackMen and not give her an SSX Tribute issue unless something else played into the mix.
We’re never going to see eye-to-eye on the Bria issue, but I can tell you, I’ve been in the game for a minute–and by that I mean since the 90s. Bria is definitely a star and would outshine Brittany in any post on one of these urban message boards. I could do a Brittany vs. Bria on CutieCentral or AllHipHip TODAY and prove that point. But this eye candy game, just like the rest of Hollywood, is not just about who’s the best. Other factors, like personal relationships, sexing down rappers, money, the girl’s personality and dynamic with editors, etc. come into play. Trust.
Also, if you’re going to be any good in this game, you’ve gotta learn to know and respect what the readers/fans want, not just what you like. YOU may not like Bria, but if you were a magazine editor it would be unwise *not* to put her in your magazine. Your strong distaste for Bria, however, tends to indicate that you are not even willing to accord her the credit she deserves for ranking high with fans in this genre. In other words, you are putting your personal preference above reality. Not good to run a magazine (which I assume you want to do based on trying to get an internship at one these urban mags).

If Bria didn’t sell magazines she wouldn’t have been 14 out of a 100 eye candy models ranked by Smooth. She wouldn’t have been in Smooth, King (cover), BlackMen (twice, one cover), Show and XXL. If you really think that tribute issues are solely related to sales, then you have a lot to learn. I’ve personally had conversations with these editors that say otherwise.
And btw, Bria hit the scene in 2006 really. Not that long ago. When she did the Kanye/Rymefest video, no one knew who she was–there were no pics or website to connect to her face.
But Brittany will never have as many eye candy credits as Bria, that I can pretty much assure you.

Yea I want to be editor in chief of my own magazine one day I live and breathe this stuff. But I never said I wouldn’t feature Bria in it. Your right I would be stupid not to. But would I put her on the cover??? Most likely not, unless it was a plethora of emails bombarding my office for her. Reason being I’m from NY and I went to college in DC and from my observations the biggest subscribers to these urban mags are the barber shops correct me if im wrong. Whenever I go to the barbershop its always all the urban magazines (King, BlackMen, Smooth, Show) on the tables along with guys arguing over the baddest females in the magazines. When Angel dropped, heads might not have known her name but the moment you said shorty from the Ye “Good Life” video or Trey Songz “Wonder Woman” video dudes were going crazy talking about what they would do if they had her, they’d cheat on their wife for her, and is her body better than Beyonce’s or Halle’s etc same goes with Vida, Esther and M. Ford. Stuff like that, me observing from an editors perspective would be put shorty on the cover of my mag cause I have a feeling she is in demand and would sell like hotcakes. Never has Bria Myles been the talk at any barber shop I’ve gone to. I put big money if I walked into that same barber shop today and say Bria Myles shorty from the Clipse “Mr. Me Too” video or Rhymfest ‘Brand New” video there would be cricket sounds like WHO? Now, with regard to the barbershop comment, persoanlly I don’t think that’s the majority buying market (but I could be wrong). I think African American males in college and bubbies are the primary purchasers of the eye candy mags. The barbershop just buys one copy (or subscribes) and heads sit around and talk. But for my money, if I had to use the internet or the barbershop for as a gauge of what’s hot, I’d take the internet any day.
Here’s why: people on the internet are more savvy about the dymepiece market in my opinion and are more likely to have the resources to buy these mags. It could also be argued that guys on the net just wait around to get stuff for free, lol. But I’ve seen the most intelligent and insightful conversation about the eye candy market on the net. And these dudes with broadband subscriptions and scanners and hi-end computers are the market with the disposable income to buy BlackMen or King. The guys in the barbershop do a lot of shit talking, but at the end of the day, are they the buying crowd?
Okay, finally, Marcus. I have respect for Marcus, his magazine is probably the most influential eye candy mag to be in as a model. An SSX Tribute issue goes a long way. He was also the first person to put Melyssa on blast back in the day. But the best at picking eye candy? I don’t think so. I think Sean Cunningham is the best at that, hands down. I’m starting to get bored with SHOW too, but page-for-page, his magazine consistently packs in the best looking and most true to the market dymes out there. BlackMen has largely sold out on what the market wants, putting the likes of Tila Tequila and other thin mixed race chicks on the cover.
I also know that personal animus plays greatly in Marcus’s decisions about girls. He can be very vindictive and spiteful if a girl crosses him. I assure you, this will surface if you hang with him long enough. I’m not saying some of the girls he’s banished don’t deserve it, but at the end of the day I think you should be giving the people what they want.
When guys critique these women I sometimes wonder what kind of women they personally date…most likely they don’t compare to the women on here that they say that, ” her face needs work” BS.

I hear what all of you guys are saying…some of it is right, so of it is wrong….but most important, it’s just everybody’s own opinion.
Here’s a great way to straighten this out…our own opinions on how models look…pretty face, nice body, phat ass…is like an asshole..WE ALL HAVE ONE.
It doesn’t make what any of you bloggers say is correct or not, or written in stone…it’s just your opinion that some folks agree or disagree on.
To me, all of these Models are beautiful in their own way (obviously the popular ones, you know who they are).
For me, i’m a very picky guy when it comes to working with Models…they have to be star quality, inside & out, in my eyes.
A guy in Miami might think Bria is fine with a crazy body & phat ass, a dude in Pheonix might think Bria looks wack.
I don’t know about you but i’ve met Bria in person…she’s sick! her body is outta control, her ass is crazy phat AND she’s a beautiful chocolate sista…but my version of beautiful might be different from Redz or the next guy.
I’ve seen her in person but have not met Brittany…i’ve seen her Magazine & video work…to me she’s cool, cute, has a nice body.
But that is just my opinion…doesn’t make me right or wrong from the next guy’s taste in women.
Everybody talks about Bria in Rhymefest “Brand New”…did most of you forget she was in T-Pain’s first video, “I’m Sprung” ? Better yet, all over the Chingy “Dem Jeans” video? She had a major look in that one…those 2 videos are more recent than the Rhymefest or Clipse videos.
If these Models want longevity in this Modeling game, it’s all about maintaining and establishing yourself.
Bria had her Magazine & Video run earlier this year, so has Brittany. I think Bria might have been remembered a little more because of her complexion and thickness (trust me, in person, Bria is crazy thick!). Brittany did have a nice Magazine run in the Spring &Summer wher she was in just about every mag at the same time.
I agree…there is & always has been a light complexion thing in choosing Models to be in music videos & magazines…I just hope that more beautiful Models who have chocolate features, looks, complexion & body like Bria get more of a shot in Magazines & Videos.

I speak to & do business with folks like Sandy@SMOOTH, Sean Malcolm & Datwon @ KING, Bonsu @ XXL, Sean Cummings @ SHOW, Marcus @ BLACK MENS, Arty & Jamel @ FEDS and SWEETS and other Magazine editors just about every day…i’ve been in the Radio & Music Business for over 20 years so we all run in the same Entertainment circle here in NYC…I know what these folks are thinking when it comes to business.
Even though there are days when they make decisions about shooting & featuring certain Models in their Mags that I might or migh not agree with…I have to respect their decision of choices…and I think alot of readers should understand some things about the Magazine business.
Put yourself in their shoes…trying to decide which girls they are going to feature each issue…it’s a hard job doing that and trying to find a common ground to make all of their readers happy with their Model selections.
Imagine making that decision every issue to please 300-400K subscribers and folks who buy it on newsstands and bookstores around the country…It’s not gonna be easy…some issues they get right, some they get wrong…but these Magazines have been successful for a long time because for the most part, they’ve benn right with their selection of Models, along with everything else in that particular issue.
Don’t get me wrong…yes, politics play a major part on which Model appears in the Mag (even selecting Models to be in music videos)…every business has politics involved when decisions are being made…these editors are in the business of making money, selling Magazines & subscriptions.
These editors not only have to appeal to the bloggers like yourself, but to the guys in barbershops, dudes in Jail(they buy alot of these mags) and the regular man or woman on the street who like, sees or hears about these Magazines.
Redz mentioned in an earlier blog about Sandy choosing Deelishis over Angel for the cover of the new SMOOTH…not to defend Sandy because I do business with her, but I think that was a great choice & a smart business decision.
I’ve known Angel for awhile (I was at her first cover shoot for i.b.Concept Magazine in Jan.2006 when she went by her name Fershgenet)…she’s beautiful, a sweetheart with a crazy body & phat ass (surgeries or not). I congratulate her on all of her success and accoldates this year. But as a Magazine publisher, you have to put Deelshis with a sexy new look on your cover. Angel has been in all of the major videos (you know which ones), but Deelishis is a TV star/household name, whether you like Flavor Of Love or not. When people went to work every Monday, Deelishis was water cooler talk, not Angel. Do the business math-Deelishis, winner of Flavor Of Love 2, was seen by over 6 million plus viewers every week on TV (remember, it’s the #1 rated show in the over 25 year history of VH1) plus she was the SMOOTH Cover Girl for their successful Jamaica Issue this Summer…Angel was just recently on the cover of KING (with a spread), has a sexy Black & White spread for Eye Candy of the year (I think that is her best spread yet), has a BLACK MENS SSX Tribute issue and she’s a couple of 4 minute music videos.
Deelishis is known to the masses from TV, black & white…Angel is really still known only in the Urban world.
If Hugh Hefner were choosing between the two to put on the cover & featured in Playboy, it would be Deelishis hands down…same thing if it were Maxim.
If you were the Publisher of SMOOTH, with Angel all over the marketplace on your director urban competitors magazines, would you still put her on your cover? Unless it’s the hottest cover/spread/issue ever, you are not going to sell alot and stand out, especially putting out an important issue financially at this time of the year.
A lot of those reasons are probably why Deelishis was chosen #2 on SMOOTHGirl’s Top 100, and not Angel # 3.
Now sometimes, over saturation works in reverse for a Model being featured in alot of Magazines…
take CoCo for example.
This time last year, SMOOTH got the jump over everybody by having CoCo on the cover with a featured spread…it did very well, her spread was crazy hot. From my understanding, it was one of SMOOTH’s biggest selling issues ever.
Then came BLACK MENS, SSX, Owners Illustrated and about 20 other Magazines that featured CoCo on the cover and/or had a spread on her. Magazines had an opportunity to cash in on CoCo’s popularity plus, take advantage of Ice T’s popularity. When you have a chance as a Magazine publisher/editor to feature a woman with looks, a body & ass like CoCo’s (surgery or not) and have an opportunity to interviewing Ice T, who is a hip hop legend/icon AND star of a top 10 TV show (Law & Order SUV)…you take that chance. That’s business and trying to sell more Magazines. A lot of those things probably factored in with CoCo chosen #1 on SMOOTHGirl’s Top 100, and not Angel.
Plus, CoCo and Ice T wanted to be everywhere so they can sell CoCo’s 2007 Calendar and DVD…on their part, that’s business.
I understand all of you bloggers’ passion & love for some of your favorite Magazine Models/Video Vixens.
But before you start criticizing other Models’ looks, faces, bodies, etc. and getting pissed off because a Model you don’t like was featured in this Magazine or on the cover of that Magazine or lead in a Music Video…
understand that this is a business…understand the decsions that some of these publishers, editors, casting directors make when they select Models to be featured.
FYI…If you are in the NYC area this weekend, Dec.28-30, SASHA & MONIQUA will be appearing at the International Bike Show at the Javitz Convention in NYC..they will be at the WCB Booth signing autographs & taking pictures…both of them are featured in the 2008 WCB Bike Calendar, with SASHA on the cover.

Much respect. I can tell from your note that you have the experience to back up what you are saying.
I agree with it all. I too have seen Bria in person. Hell, I’ve photographed her. People just don’t understand. She’s got crazy body and is very attractive. When Sandy first met her, she was like “Oh my God, you’re even more beautiful in person.” Most guys that meet her in person cannot believe how crazy her body is. This is no exaggeration.
In my opinion, Bria should be further along than she is right now. I think she is top of the game, and unlike Coco and Angel, she’s 100% natural.
But as you say, other factors come into play.

Wow I just read all the responses. First I hope everyone had a safe Merry Christmas and ready for the NEW YEAR! Everyone’s making some valid points. Kale I stand corrected on the barbershop subscribers cause I forgot all about the jail dudes who buy ALOT of these magazines cause the vixens always shout them out. Also guys overseas as icy mentioned he finds out about them from the internet. So yea those all play roles in the sales of these magazines. So I can admit I was wrong on the majority of the subscribers are from the barbershop.
Now on Bria in reference to N Credilbe saying “Just because Bria hasn’t had a tribute issue means she’s not beautiful?” I never once said she didn’t have a cover for that reason. I said I personally wouldn’t put her on any COVER of a magazine I owned unless it was loads of emails sent asking for her because I don’t feel she is facially strong or talked about enough in the urban scene, but I would have her as a feature inside the magazine for the fans that like her. And I said “If Bria were as BAD as you guys are saying she is, she would have an SSW Tribute by now if Marcus thought it would sell. He’s no dummy at the end of the day if Bria’s gonna put more money in his pocket by selling mad magazines I doubt he would not give her a tribute and thats real talk.” But I meant SSX tribute my bad I type fast sometimes so I don’t check my spelling lol. Anyway my opinion about Bria holds NO greater weight than the next mans. My taste are different in women then the next mans. But because of all the debate I have actually gone to Bria’s site cause before I didn’t really even know who she was until BlackJack posted her on here. She was not that memorable to me like Angel, Esther Baxter, or Vida Guerra to want to know her. But I just think with dark skin females, me personally I’m attracted facially to the more East African/Indian dark skin female features (in BK growing up we called them Chyna Dolls) and Bria has a more West African look that others might find more attractive and thats alright everyones entitled to their own standard of beauty. But I like bone structure and lips like Naomi Campbell, complection and eye color like a Jessica White, slanted eyes like Foxy Brown or Maia Campbell, and hair like Kim Porter. All those women I mentioned are beautiful dark skin women to me that I think are prettier than any lightskin female today, but might not be to other fellas. I just said that to state my probable reasoning why I don’t find Bria attractive facially although her body as I’ve said almost every post is on point theres no denying that.
I also wanna touch on a couple things cause I respect N Credible’s response he reminds me of how I go in for Angel lol but he said “And why should someone come to a thread about a particular model and then say, ” aw she ok but so and so looks better”. Sounds like a personal vendetta or suspect hate.” Good points but no I DO NOT have any personal vendetta or suspect hate for Bria. I’m a male I have no reason whatsoever to have any personal vendetta or suspect hate for her that would be more justifiable had I been a female. To be honest I think she has a beautiful skin tone and is attractive from the neck down. I just stated that I personally wouldn’t pay to see her on the cover of the magazine because her face wasn’t there for me that was my opinion. I probably wouldn’t have said anything had a request for her to be on covers not been stated. And I was curious why Bria was getting all these old pics posted and Brittany Dailey wasn’t getting any scans. Black knows on a couple posts I always get random and ask him about other models even on Angel’s post I asked about Stacey Dash scans. It’s not intentional I’m just random at times like that.
Lastly, what got me to really have an attraction to Angel and what seperated her from the majority of these video vixens and why she is where she is on all these covers of mags and such was when I saw her on her birthday. She didn’t have her ass or breast exposed she was in a classy silver dress and I saw her and my mouth dropped like DAMN shorty looks like a Trinidad/Ethiopian Princess or a Barbie Doll she was sooo facially beautiful I didn’t notice any other females in the club. Don’t believe me look for yourself at Angel on her birthday at Club Retreat.

It’s not many vixens that can be fully clothed and have dudes still in awe of them, solely on their facial beauty (i.e. Maliah Michele, Temeca Lashuntae, Buffie the body couldn’t do it in my opinion). I just notice when I went to Bria’s site she couldn’t have just a face shot she had to have her ass showing in order to make the photo appealing! Almost like the photographer or she knew her face alone just wasnt gonna cut it, just my take on it. On a lighter note I do feel Bria should be getting more attention than Buffie the Body though if anything. I feel if Bria had been in that G-Unit video instead of Buffie she would be in a much better situation as far as exposure. Buffy just got the big booty thing popular mainstream when she showcased it in the popular G-unit video. Cause Bria is all around better than Buffie in my opinion( face and body wise). I just hope in ’08 casting directors and magazine editors look more at the girls face and body and not just search for who has the phattest ass and thats whose gonna get the most play. Cause I personally find that insulting as a consumer and reader.

Even though Angel didn’t get that cover over Deelishis I see what they were tryin to do now that you explained it and its understandable. I checked out your site and you definitely have a winner with Sasha (I bigged her up on my first post saying she and Brittany will be the top vixens in ’08). She is already one of my favorite up and coming vixens for ’08. I was a believer after that smooth girl spread lol I really can’t wait to see more from her. You from BK so I’m assuming you know this other model girl name Sophia Marie I keep telling her she needs to get back in industry cause she is sooo pretty and thick also. I predict if she gets back into the game Sasha, Sophia, and Brittany will be the top contenders for ’08. yea her pics on the internet are ok but not great. I have yet to see the scans of her from this months BlackMen’s on the internet. So if you near a borders or barnes and nobles just stop by the magazine section and you will see the BlackMen swimsuit edition and look at her pics in there. Those are her best ones to date, those are the pics that made me think to put her on the map. Or there are a couple of pics on her through her myspace (www.myspace.com/brittbritt28). And the reason its hard to find pics of her on the internet cause she is fairly new to the game.

Bria is the kind of Sister that instills powerful lust in us men! Her face is beautiful and her body is the perfect definition of think! However, it’s easy to see that she will be very overweight one day if she doesn’t get a handle on it. In Sisters, thickness quickly turns to obesity.
