The King is Dead

The rumors been flying and blog posts been hitting for the last two days on this but it looks like it might be true. It looks like King Magazine is out of business. I’ve been reading conflicting reports about whether the next issue will not hit stands or not. But some are saying the last issue will hit stands on April 21. I am banking that’s the real deal because I don’t want to see them go out without a bang.

I gotta say as a fan, it was a surprise. King had the distro, the ads and the presence that made you think they be still standing when the dust settles. Makes you want to say, “Say it ain’t so”. When King was on its game, it was one of the best. Even off, it was at least good. The last year was definitely an off year. On my personal fav list it was pretty much dead last for the last 12 months. I mean the minute Chanta Patton hit the cover without cause the magazine on was downward slide. But I was thinking they’d get it together and make a come back.

So what do you gotta say? Glad The King is dead? Or waiting for his return?

  3. Redz says:

I agree I liked King they had a decent year with the Stacey Dash and Dollicia Bryan covers the rest were thumbs down last year. I will miss that mag though guess Smooth and Show are the only men mags worth buying nowadays.

This is fucked up, I cant take no more disappointments like this. Can I blame Bush for this one?

  6. Big J says:

I knew something was up when I noticed that they hadn’t changed their pictures in days. Guess I’ll have to find my thrill somewhere else.

  7. JLG87 says:

If there making the last cover, they should put Beyonce on that shit! As long as Smooth and SHOW is still available; bomb ass hip hop models are still going to be represented!!!

  8. MajorKnuckles says:

Nah nah nah nah, Nah nah nah nah, Hey, He-ey.. GOOD-BYE!

Now don’t let the door hit you on the way out, suck it up muffin cause only the strong survive.. lol.

  9. Uncle Ruckus says:

Joe Budden’s girl Tahiry’s supposed to be on the cover I think.

    • Redz says:

Tahiry is a fuckin mess to me you can go to any area in the L.E.S, Washington Heights, Spanish Harlem, or The Bronx and find a dominican chick like her with the same body shape and face. Real wrap! When it comes to those stupid ass videos she is so damn annoying to me. Give me Cubana Lust videos anyday over Joe Budden and Tawhory TV!

      • skivvy says:

Redz, I have never seen women like that or this in Hamilton heights (just south of washington heights). Where do they hide?

        • Redz says:

Shyyyyyyyt you must not go out then. Go to the Sofa Lounge in the Bronx which is the Fordham area off Cedar Ave. on a real popular night I bet you will find about 10 Tahiry’s in the crowd if thats your type. I promise, I was there one time for the Fat Joe album release party last year and I could count the Dominican chicks on both hands looking like her with phat asses, wide hips, and A or B cup chest walking around. Or just wait until Spring/Summer really hits and you can drive around those areas and spot them chillin on the porch braiding hair. Not tryin to sound racist but thats real wrap. I use to talk to a Dominican shorty from Fordham.

You right Redz, Washington Heights is infested with chicks like that….see em everyday going to work with the swollen bubble

          • skivvy says:

huh.. I guess they must not be around when i wake up (noon+) lol.

I only see the short old women with the food carts around 145th & bway

  10. I was never a reader of their mag, but I did enjoy seeing some of the scans pop up on the internet (maybe I’m one of the reasons they couldn’t survive). I wish their staff the best though. It’s a real tough market out here and the economy isn’t making it any easier.

I hope king doesn’t out of business. They do really good work

  12. Redz says:

    • yup says:

they have two covers and keyshia cole will be on the other one

      • Redz says:

They should have had Lisa Raye and Kenya Moore on the covers cause I’m not buying either. That definitely is a hood recession issue. Way to go out King. Thumbs down!

        • I can’t disagree with Kenya Moore, but she’s up there in age now. However, Lisa Raye??? I’ve only thought she was OK, even during her best years. I never saw why dudes were so up on her? I would have liked to have seen Susie Da Silva or Nadia Dawn on the cover of King, but I guess that day will never come.

  13. R.I.P Kingmagazine!! Me and my cabinet was runnig that site.

  14. GirlieGirl says:

I am upset about this. That magazine was what got me interested in urban models in the first place. Looking at them made me feel better about myself as a curvy black woman, that I could be considered beautiful and attractive too.

  15. Artistic says:

I actually liked king, oh well.
