NaNa talking about her ethnicity reminds me a of what a former Greek ex-girlfriend used to say about people just getting it wrong:

I never would guess Samoan either based on these photos. Every single Samoan person I’ve met throughout the whole of my life (I’m 24 military brat) has been physically imposing. Obviously that wouldn’t mean that all Samoans are like that, but for first chance guess.. I think her experience is pretty reasonable unless she lives in an area with a huge Samoan community.
