Cubana Lust Fire on The Water

You know I was gonna drop this so why did it take me so long? Perfection missed. When I first heard about Smooth Girl 18 was going to feature Cubana Lust, I assumed she would be on the cover. When I saw the preview with Simone on the cover my first thought was, “Who?” and “You’re joking right?” How someone didn’t pause and realize that the only model with any real buzz in that issue was Cubana just makes me wonder what rock people are living under. Come on.

Cubana has been driving traffic on this site the way Jesikah Maximus did in 08 and Angel aka Lola Luv (Lola Monroe) did in 07. The Show Magazine feature (checkout Juicy) was one of the best shoots in the last year. How Smooth didn’t deliver on this just leaves me scratching my head.

How do you spend the green to go all the way to Jamaica and then photograph your star on a tiny boat? On an overcast day? Unnhhh?!?

Cubana is still sexy has hell and I am sure we will keep seeing her in print. Hell, Smooth needs to do a round to with her and do her justice. Let’s face it, Blackmen got the market cornered with Coco and Show got a whole group of stars, who does Smooth have?

Checkout CubanaLust.com or keep up with Cubana on Tweeter.

Enjoy.

Man she’s bad. One of the booties and beauties around!!

    Umm…excuse Mr. BlackJack Sir?

you just might have some WINNERS in here sir.

    That is all

That’s exactly what I was thinking BlaKK.
Nick and Coco did the boat theme way better. I wasnt impressed with this shoot at all. For a minute I thought you werent even going to bother scanning it but it is Cubana so I’m not mad.

  4. ummm…Cubana has the most astounding booty I have ever seen in real life…I saw her in Jamaica and knew she HAD to be one of the Smooth models..she made me look like a preteen….lol. Love her!!!

    • Benny says:

Courtney you are so gracious but the fact is your shoot was infinitely better than hers. They should be ashamed of themselves for not having a plan B. That sky looks terrible. And she looks almost as bored as she did in that sex video. Cubana is an icon by now so they should treat her like one.

    • IMAX says:

Yes Courtney I agree with Benny, your shoot was better. You do not look like a pre-teen. Continue to stay humble. That’s a lost quality these days…

      • whoa! ok…ummm…thanks guys :) goin back to twitter….

        • Cherry says:

Love Cubana, but agreed with all of you on the shoot. She’s way cuter than this. Cubana’s got a great bod, and I think despite the elements playing against her, she still pulls it off. But Smooth could have done SO much more with her.

And agreed too…Courtney your pics were WAY better. I can’t wait to see more of your work.

  5. still shocked you guys noticed the sky…they always stereotype men like “They aren’t even gonna be looking at all that, girl! Don’t worry about it…” lol

  6. dougie says:

I have seen her in person, and while that is in fact what her face and ass look like, the rest is completely photoshoped. Dried up stretch make titties, and a wrinkled stretch marked belly. Smh false advertising!

  7. dougie says:

She works at the club Starz here in LA. I’m not hating. It is what it is and she is sexy as fuck in person, however her body does NOT relly look like that.

  8. anonymous says:

have you noticed that in 1 her pics the tattoo is on her left butt cheek and all the others are on her right

  9. 907 says:

Love her body and face and actually think the backdrop for the photos isn’t bad (I have seen far worse)…..but they really shoulda Photoshopped the god awful tats. I am sorry but this booty is perfection on its own and the ink is an unfortunate distraction.

FWIW I love that Show hides all the ink. A beautiful girl like this need not modify her body with tats of questionable taste located on her sexiest parts.

  10. Redz says:

The shoots not HORRIBLE…. its just ok for me. But I still like Cubana. And Black you gotta give credit to Smooth they were the first and ONLY urban magazine to shoot Amber Rose.

    Black…
I read your intro, but I gotta disagree with you bro.
What i’m about to say is based on my experience doing business with these magazine publishers/editors…so i’m not speaking for Sandy, Smooth or any other magazine publisher/editor…I just know how these folks think when they make these decisions about models, spreads & covers.
Cubana might be hot on some websites & blogs with her pics, WSHH video clips and other magazine spreads, but that doesn’t mean she was automatically gonna be the covergirl for the Smoothgirl Jamaica issue.
Based on her internet popularity, i see your argument for Cubana to be on the cover. But there could’ve been alot of reasons why she wasn’t…
-maybe Cubana’s pics weren’t cover material
-maybe other models they shot in Jamaica had better pics to be cover material
-maybe they thought Simone’s pic was better for a cover…it was, in my opinion…to me, I think Solei should’ve been the cover and has a better body than Cubana…she should’ve been a covergirl for Smooth & other mags a year or two ago when she did the chris brown “kiss kiss” and E-40 videos.

I do know, from my model Sasha & other models who shot for the Jamaica issue, that it did rain several days down there…that was probably why it looked overcast in Cubana and other models’ pics.

I understand sites like BJS, WSHH, Click ‘n Spark, Indosplace, etc. help blow up a model…but it doesn’t automatically mean that a popular model on these sites should automatically get the cover if they shoot for a magazine.
These publishers’ thought process on which model gets what spread or cover is like yours and how which model you feature on BJS.
    Everybody does business differently…
What model & cover decisions that work for Sean & Show works for him, just like for Marcus & Black Men, Kay Slay & Straight Stuntin and Sandy & Smooth.
We as readers, and website scanners, might not agree, but these publishers have their own methods to justify their choices.
Case in point…the new Smooth mag coming out has 50 Cent on the cover and as guest editor, featuring a spread of Tia, Rick Ross’ baby moms.
Smooth & other mags would probably never shoot Tia seperately, but if that was the only way they could get 50Cent as guest editor and on the cover (first time ever that a man or male celebrity has been on the cover of Smooth), then so be it…Smooth probably had no choice but to shoot Tia if they wanted to use 50.
Now we can talk about if it’s worth using 50 for a mag right now on another blog…but at the end of the day, even without any hit records at the moment, 50 Cent is still a big enough celebrity & name in hip hop that can sell magazines & products (best-selling books, vitamin water, etc.)
Sometimes these magazine publishers make business decisions that the readers (and scanners) might not understand…but if it benefits the mag, especially financially in this cash-strapped/magazines closing/recession world we live in, then so be it.
So like I said earlier, I understand the passion you and your web readers have about certain models that should get covers or have bigger features in these magazines, but remember, it’s a business…what works for one doesn’t work for others and vice versa.

By the way, Redz…I was Amber Rose’s agent in October & November of that year…I was the one who booked Amber for that Smooth spread, her first and ONLY urban magazine…if you heard someone else did, they’re lying. I also booked Amber to be lead in French hip hop star Booba’s video “Illegal” and her famous Lip Service Show interview on Sirius XM…plus a photographer who I work with did Amber’s first real photoshoot over a year ago, when she was dancing at Sue’s.
I can tell you some Amber Rose stories but I won’t…I think she’s had enough unecessary publicty already…

    • RED says:

I completely agree JD….I mean 1208model ;-) But I think thats the reason that these magazines hit or miss, because of their “personal” reasons for choosing who to put in their magazine and their covers. I also agree that Solei should have got the cover AND better makeup (they jacked her up, like getting a bad haircut). Her body is the best all natural body out of EVERYONE in that magazine and maybe ever…I seen her in Miami and can attest to that!! But people will do what THEY feel is right, and they are entitled to that…but when are we going to get a magazine that utilizes either KNOWN models that have a buzz and can capitalize off being on the cover, OR Models that we on the net are partial to? Case in point…Joanna Shari is has a much larger online following and much more interesting life story than Amazin Aime, yet Amazin Amie (fake a$$ and all) get LOTS of shine on magazine covers etc. the editors are not using the known namebrand of Joanna, they are trying to make Amie a namebrand, and she doesnt even have a website!!! smh. Or how about Miss Koi?? She gets no love from SHOW, Smooth, or BlackMens and she is CLEARLY a web favorite, yet people they are still publishing Temecca Freeman who seemingly dropped outta the game for min.

Overall, I think its ironic for Blakk (no offense) of all people to question a publications choice in cover models, cause this website in itself is similar to a magazine in that a single person chooses who to skan based on personal preference, which is why certain girls (Aime, Jessikah, Vanessa Veasly, Laura Dore, Brenda Lynn, Cubana) are all over this site while others are not. AND I can remember when Blakk first skanned Joanna Shari, he wrote:

“Nothing like the first time. My first and only PAWG post. I got your emails, your requests. Here ya go, Joanna Shari.”

Now fast forward several months and how many Jessikah Maximus, Laura Dore, Aime, and Brenda posts are there??…LOL

      • BlaKKJaKK says:

Fast forward a few months? You’re taking about a post from a year and half ago. Yes, I have relaxed a lot since then and have been enjoying the mix.

Yes I do have certain shorties I favor. I’ll skan and hype Bria Myles, Amie, Vanessa whenever I can, etc. But my own tastes aren’t the only thing that drives me. I do pay attention to what actually pops. So if you see a few more Jesikah, etc posts it’s because they drive real eye balls to the site.

I also do take requests seriously and when I get enough for a certain model I may have passed over, I often will give her a shot.

      • KALE says:

To me, this is the KEY point in this discussion. One of the reasons (there are several) that the urban mags started to fail is because they started to let behind-the-scenes politics dictate who got shine in their pages and who didn’t. This argument that hype on the net is somehow “other” and separate and needn’t be adhered to is false. The net IS this urban audience. The net is the reason a lot of these magazines are failing. Magazines no longer tell us who is hot – we decide who is hot on the net. That’s a radical change from how things were just 5 years ago. These editors need to wake up and smell the coffee.

They can keep pulling bunnies out of their hat because a girl gives up the draws, but we as consumers will not buy magazines for that reason.

By the way, 1208Models, I appreciate your points and the way made them. This is *not* directed at you.

On Indosplace, there are models I post that I have personally interacted with and did not get along with. But it’s not about me and whether some model gave me the warm and fuzzies. It’s about who is HOT. Who is good for the genre. Who is really elevating it versus bringing it down.

For the record, I think BlakkJakk makes good choices in terms of who gets attention here. :-)

        • Cherry says:

“Now fast forward several months and how many Jessikah Maximus, Laura Dore, Aime, and Brenda posts are there??…LOL”

And what’s wrong with that? All women are beautiful no matter what their racial background is.

    • BlaKKJaKK says:

That’s cool you got your reasons. I know people have their business reasons, which may or may not be valid but sales will sort out the winners.

But I know this if you ignore the fan base too often with bad business decisions eventually your magazine joins the growing ranks of defunct mags.

Hell even you agree that Simone wasn’t your choice. But ignoring the obvious buzz that Cubana has was a big miss.

Side note, Cubana wasn’t my first choice based on my personal taste. I could go with Solei but if it just my taste, it would have been Keneisha hands down, no contest.

  13. Anartist says:

In pics 1 & 2 she looks great, i was never feeling her face before but she looks a lot better here.

I cant believe though, how a magazine whose main selling point is its pictures, can so clearly and so consistently be sloppy with it’s picture editing. No one at the office noticed the blatantly cheek jummping tatoo?!

Tssh, anyway, i agree about the backdrop, despite the lighting on her the whole shoot looks gloomy. Even the water looks grimy. Good work though Black.

  14. Redz says:

I don’t know why there is this big debate. I may not like all the models BlackJack skanz but he fairly scans a variety of women I have to admit. I mean he’s scanning Straight Stuntin aka The Recessions version of King Magazine. That’s really really really deep and out of the norm. I’m just saying…

Numbers DON’T lie. If the Sexy Solei’s, Miss Koi’s and Joanna Shari’s were so much in demand and sold mags they would be present everywhere on covers and heavy traffic driving blogs. Look at Angel Lola Luv in 2007, Dollicia Bryan in 2008, and Amber Rose presently in 2009. No one can stop an undeniable in demand model. The mags were forced to put those models on their covers because of their undeiable attraction and/or demand on the internet by majority of the BUYING public (keyword BUYING public).

The urban market is suffering big time but I think models like Cubana Lust (The new Deelishis), Amazin Amie (The new Coco), and LA Brown (The new Buffie/Bria) will be the standouts by years end. And even though I’m not a fan, Jesikah Maximus can be thrown in there to because she sells mags regardless.
BlackJack I may dawg on some of these “models” who don’t have the prettiest faces, but you keep doing your thing your doing a great job.

Oh and from this issue I honestly liked Amber Easton and Keniesha as the top 2 for the cover if I had to pick. Courtney StarrBurst and CovaGirl had great spreads as well. Sexy Solei as everyone keeps saying has a wonderful body but what about her face?…. Guess that’s a mute point I’mma leave that one alone.

  15. Benny says:

    man I love this website…

  16. Interesting conversation…throwing my two cents in…

I would have been more inclined to give the cover to a model that people will be interested in. Forget who had the best pics or who had the best lighting or best outfit. I’m looking to generate as much interest as possible by showcasing who’s hot.

Hot not referring to their appearance, that’s a matter of opinion. The only hot that matters to me is will your popularity going to sell this product! Will websites and blogs run your spread, will people spread it around the internet, will it make people buy it on the shelf.

All the rest of the girls, no matter how beautiful they may be, are honestly forgotten filler. Simply a means to getting a magazine number of pages it needs.

  17. Cherry says:

Awesome discussion! Hardcore readers will always buy the magazines they love, so shouldn’t the cover girl be someone a NEW reader would recognize?

Cubana should have been the cover girl, she has the most buzz.

  18. Dee says:

Could they not have shot her on a sunny day? It looks like clouds are rolling in to start a thunder storm. I don’t really like the shoot. I know she’s prettier than this (even though I dont think shes all that pretty to begin with) but her face looks like a disaster in these. I hate the poses … This whole thing is just wrong for me, lol.

    Maybe it’s the wig … I don’t know. Meh …

  19. Benny says:

I dont really care who’s on the cover as long as it looks hot. All that bureaucracy stuff is way over my head and trivial to me. Turns me off…I care more about the content. The cover should be creative and eye catching. When I find myself subconsciously trying to keep the cover clean by not touching it too much I feel like I got my money’s worth.
