dont worry. im about to change the image and the style that they use to.
I like the sound of that.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn its a ghost town around here
hey bjs u need to move on i think you struct a nerve with this one
sad sad sad
i guess we do have some mental problems
we must confront the hard shit in life come on FAMILY
I’m really glad that there is a huge awareness of the slavery period. To me that is the 1st and biggest problem with the complexion issue of our people. I would even say that I am subject to it. I like light skin exotic women and when I like a woman that is your “average” black woman or darker skin I’m surprised. Sometimes if she is exotic and mixed but has darker skin I will most likely not like them. I do wish that all complexions were equal because most of all I like diversity. Now that I am where I am in my life I realized that;s what I like more than anything so that’s what I look for in a woman regardless of complexion. At the same time my preference is still light skin and I’m talkin really really really light. To where the skin looks like the color of a pearl.
Thanx for the post black. I really enjoyed that.

dolcia lives in the land of denial, you were not cast because of what comes out ya mouth
Hahaha!
That’s exactly what I was thinkin.
It’s a typical response from someone who has clearly benefited from the issue rather than been sidelined because of it
Agreed!
Who comes off great.. Vanessa!! She rules always!
I agree! Mentally the best representatvive of the models on this video…
I think Melyssa Ford, Dollicia Bryan, and Jeri J. came off the best.
WOW!! Fabulous documentary! They make a really good point.. I heard an argument that said lighter skinned girls show up better on camera.. but isn’t that a contradiction if the rapper is dark skinned he shows up just fine!
Women of all tones are beautiful and we ALL should be represented!
I have a question are u a woman?
Women of all tones are beautiful and we ALL should be represented!
just a question
Women of all tones are beautiful and we ALL should be represented! i agree ALL equaly
Yes, I’m a chick!
From a purely technical standpoint, yes, people with darker skin are harder to light properly in photography and video. It’s a sign of a technically-proficient photographer if they can photograph anyone and get the lighting right, irregardless of skin tone.
Sometimes it’s not so much racism as it’s just people who can’t do their job.
It’s funny you say that because I notice how poor the lighting was on Jeri J’s face in her interview with Rock Me TV.
But it’s a still reflection of choices let’s face, it if the numbers were reversed we would be hearing “light skinned” models are hard light because they look washed out under the lights.”
Yeah, Cherry's absoluty right. And there's no excuse because everything is shot in High Definition now!
Dollicia Bryan, Suelyn, and Jeri J. look GORGEOUS in these videos.
Good Documentary but short on historical perspective. This phenomenon of color obsession is only about 500-600 years old. It was a necessary tactic for the Europeans in their quest for world domination. The proof of its successful implementation is evident not only here in Amerikkka, but this color division can be found all over the world………..To our(indigenous peoples) detriment and others benefit. This color obsession must be dealt with in order to shift the tide of power away from Western Powers and back in the hands of Earth original inhabitants. The vast majority of human history is behind us, and we Afrikans dominated the scene for eons. True history, if taught to the masses would cure all our perspectives. Every race has one mother and father. And this is said with no dishonor to any other race. The Question is why do we deny our original mother? Why not give our original mama her due respect in what we do. If it were not for her none of us would exist. Lets’ move to turn the tables and rid ourselves of these negative self perceptions and establish perceptions more aligned with higher concepts of truth and honor. Peace to the Gods and Goddesses out there. Hotep.
can the _ fool a ….
THANK YOU FAM
Good points. And if anyone has any doughts, just do some research on the “Untouchability” phenomenon in Inda. The entire Hindu faith is basically a method of strategically oppressing black skinned Indians with the cast system. The Untouchables call themselves “Dalits” which I think means “unbroken ones”. It is said that the Black Untouchables of India today are treated similar to the oppressed Black Americans of the 1950′s. They even have their own Martin Luther King like freedom fighter named Dr. Velu Annamalai.

This shit is world wide folks, don’t be fooled by racism’s stealth-like evolution into the smoke screen of “that’s just my personal preference”. Remember when the Africans first laid sight on the Europeans they thought they were sick. Their white skin actually frightened them. And I don’t mean that as an insult of any kind, I’m just attempt to contrast the ‘then’ with the ‘now’.
It’s about time. Good documentary, much needed
Meh…bringing the complexion obsession thing up does nothing really. It’s something good to talk about as far as stating the obvious. Everybody compares skin color…as lighter being good, and darker being bad. Even if you don’t think about this consciously you still unconsciously think that way to preference. I may love dark skin girls, but I’m not in denial that this is true. When I was younger I thought this way believing light-skinned girls were prettier than dark -skinned girls, and plus television added to the problem too. Eventually as I got older and my preference started to change. Btw how hasn’t anyone notice that most of the panel is of a lighter-tone? Except “Bria”<3<3<3<3 d^_^b*" Clearly this failed before it even started. Plus you already know that if they stopped posting majority light-skinned females the magazines will fall badly. Of course adding majority dark-skinned females in the magazines would please me and others..lol({:D)
I kinda agree on how this is brought up, but then just ends after debate. But the thing about magazines is interesting because at one point, it WAS mostly black and darker skinned women in the magazines; and they were selling. But then the target audience changed drastically…
The more exposure an issue gets, the better. Just think of all the things that people never talked about before that are acceptable now. Good things come about making this more of an issue, because hopefully people will see that there’s really a problem, and it will get fixed over time.
I doubt a huge change. It could happen if future generations start getting tired of just watching white or light-skinned models, but do you really believe that will happen? Lol..I think not. I can see more attempts to try to bridge this, but not really a true solution. As long as the majority prefers white or light-skinned models overall this will always be the norm for the magszines. People have to change which they won’t.
Plus remember if you live in the U.S. black people only make up a moderate to a low percentage of the population anyway.
A lot can change in even 20 years..we see a lot more color now in media then we did even 10 years ago. Giving up hope and just letting things stay the same is NOT the way to go. This documentary is a step in the right direction.
The mags we r talking about have a niche market
like homo mags have their audiance its not a playboy thing and its ok
Makes me sad to see how dumb some of those models are…
I seriously can’t believe those light-skinned girls are unable to see how convenient it is for them to see no problem with a system from which they benefit.
I mean, really…I don’t know about yall, but ignorance is a big turn-off for me.
It’s more that they are in denial than them being actually ignorant by it. They don’t want to feel like a target, but they have to face it that most light-skinned girls (Referring to all females of ethnic decent who aren’t dark) are picked for a mainstream audience just as white women are. Yes I agree with you thou that they are given more convenience, because it is easy for them to conform and associate with other races without feeling out of place. If you are darker you obviously stand-out . I know that’s how Bria is probably feeling right now, but I’m not saying to a large degree since she has worked and hung-out with Suelyn and the other models so they are familiar with each other. Though the uneasiness is still there nevertheless.
Oh please…they are not “picked for a mainstream audience”, although that may be a secondary purpose.
They are picked because BLACK PEOPLE (in America) prefer light skin. Don’t try to disguise the fact, as hard as it is to face up to it.
Let’s face facts.
When I say mainstream im referring to everybody including black people ~_~”
because as someone else said, the magazine started to fail.
Dollicia’s face comes off sooo damn gawgus on camera these photographers need to step their game up. She is the prettiest one on these videos without question. The editing of these videos were done very nice also Joy Daily and Jeri J. looked beautiful as well.
she looked like a kabooki dancer to me
i know i miss sp it
You must have her confused with that model Kim Lee. LOL!!!
no her
This issue has merits….but who cares? rap and hip-hop has degraded into such a ministrel show that it hardly matters
Exactly, I think people are missing the point this isn’t just about hip hop, videos and magazines. This issue reflects the way people think in general. We got lil Black boys and girls thinking that Black is ugly. Too many people are denial about this issue. Self hatred isn’t natural, it has to be taught. Just like fear of God. And that’s exactly what these videos are doin when they shun dark skin women. The result is niggaz like Tiger Woods that act like they’re afraid of the dark.
You do realise Tiger Woods is mixed-race, right?
Lets see how ‘mixed race’ he is when one of his lil girlfriends accuse him of rape.
rofl
built up to break down its not new
So.. is it how others perceive you that matters or how you perceive yourself? A dark Indian could be accused of rape but you wouldn’t bytch if he didn’t self identify as black. The question is, why is it so much of a big deal to you whether or not someone like Woods “SELF” identifies as multiracial?
Oh please, multiracial? Didn’t you read that boys text messages? Trust me he knows he’s Black.
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/text_messages_between_tiger_woods_lh2ptFU8WhzJEBD8f2CCgO
Really, who cares. All these videos blow anyway. And none of these girls are making a living doing these videos, it’s a hobby. Get over it.
ignorance is bliss!
Didn’t watch the video, because I’ve never seen a conscious model especailly in the Hip Hop game so I didn’t feel like listening to some (polite) running her mouth with some bs. Let’s ask some questions: Just a few. Why does the Discovery channel always pick non-dark skin actors to play ancient Egyptians? Were there any Black people on the Flintstones? Did you speak up when mama handed you or your sister a white Barbie doll as kid? When Grandma told your sister she couldn’t go to church without putting that (diluted acid) perm on her scalp to get rid of her ugly hair? Here in the 21st century when you look in your kids History books are they still teaching Colombus discovered America, do you say anything? Who owns the media, radio stations, magazines and newspapers? Do Black women still think they look better with Blonde weaves/wigs and blu contacts and then wonder why their kids hate themselves or other Black people look? Hmmmmmmm?
I think we should say “preach family”
I think it would be better to find out why people look to others to define themselves in the first place.
Why there is this hero worship being encouraged etc. If you can solve that than maybe being fed a steady diet of eurocentrism (or whatever else) wouldn’t phase you at all.
Planet wide numbers 6.5 Billion people. 90% of whom are Black, Brown and Asian. Only 10% are White/European. Do you think you are a minority? Would you be a minority if you stood in a room full of second graders and said that because you were the only adult? What happened to the ‘MAJORITY’? Did 60 million Native Americans get on a spaceship? Hmm, Did the 100,000 Black folk that were hanged and lynched between 1865-1977 just disappear as well? What about the 100 million+ exterminated during the Maafa? What happened in Australia, India, all around the equator on this planet with Brown skinned people and you still wonder why? Or let me put it like this, What’s the matter Boss, we sick? Did you ever see that espisode of Star Trek when Picard got his punk ass tortured, lol. At the end they got his ass to honestly believe and say he saw 5 lights behind his captor when they were only 4. But what do the knee-grows always say, “That was in the past”. Peace fam.
I think it was said ignorance is bliss
sad but true
You are soooo on point fam
I loved those two videos!! Its no big secret though!! My Pops went to Rio and he’s dark like me and he said it was super racist and he’ll never go back!! Its a world wide phenomenon!! Its been around before Willie Lynch because he got the idea from somewhere!! I’m a dark skin guy who loves jet black to hi yella but I always end up with a light skin girl!! Women do the choosing, though!! When I step to chocolate girls they don’t give me the same love that redbones do!! So opposites attract!! Also to me I see dark skin chicks doing CRAZY stuff to their hair (cutting it off, etc). There’s nothing prettier than a chocolate woman with some long sexy hair!! We have been bombarded with the white man’s idea of beauty for 100′s of years in America!! Pale skin, long blonde hair, blue eyes and skinny!! Guess who matches up best to that description in the black community!! Also there are way more dark skin chicks than there are light skin chicks!! Almost every brown skin and light skin guy I know say they prefer dark skin women but quite a few end up with light skin women!! I’m a young handsome dark skin guy that dresses sharp but if I walk in the club with my lighter homeys 9 times out of 10 they’re going to get the FIRST ATTENTION!! I might be in a suit and they might be in jeans!! But I’m a man I don’t sweat the small stuff!! I always end up pulling the baddest ones though!! THE FIRST STEP IN CHANGING SOMETHING IS TALKING ABOUT IT!! NOW LETS GO TO STEP 2!!
In time young bru u will be ok
For hundreds of years they said u were dumb,u had a tail,u were lazy, and a sloo of other shit but you RISE above what “THEY” say
Beautiful women should be shown regardless of their complexion. I’m sorry but Dollicia Bryan is uglier to me than Zoe Saldana, and she is lighter-skinned. Personally, I like Bria Myles better than Jessica Rabbit, and I myself am light-skinned. Maybe it’s because I am not AS adversely affected by it, but I never understood this obsession with complexion. My answers are the same, when you ask me who I would most want to look like (facially): Alesha Dixon, Paula Patton Jessica White, Lanisha Cole, Zoe Saldana. They are all different shades.
Bria Myles looks like Precious after gastric bypass surgery. SIT DOWN!
Wow, you are rude. Bria Myles has been a fan favorite for years for a reason. You have your opinion, and that’s OK, even if it’s wrong.
Don’t worry, Bria is not checking for ugly, ignorant ghetto trash such as yourself.
hmm, weird, I prefer them darker.
This…sounds like old fashioned US racism still existing in the minds of black folk.
Personally with me a pretty face is a pretty face. I could care less about color. There are gorgeous light skinned women like Vanessa Williams, Lisa Raye, Denise Vasi, Noemie Lenoir, Dollicia Bryan and there are not so cute lightskin women like Summer Walker, Tiny (T.I’s girlfriend) and others. There are gorgeous brown skinned women like Stacey Dash, Nia Long, Meagan Good, Zoe Saldana. There are also gorgeous dark skinned women like Naomi Campbell, Kenya Moore, Lanisha Cole, Jessica White, Natasha Ellie, Jeri J. And there are not so cute dark skinned women like Buffie The Body, Bria Myles and Sexy Solei. At the end of the day everyone has their OWN preference on who or what is attractive.
Thank you for posting these videos, Blackjakk. Certainly food for thought. I personally appreciate the beauty in women of pretty much every ethnicity, but I must admit I was once victim of having a color complex. I think the problem is ingrained in our society through media, schooling, pretty much every social outlet. It’s sad, but on the positive side things are slowly changing. Let’s just think of 50 years ago – no body was even having this discussion!
Stop, sure they were ask somebody 70 plus and they will tell you; cab callaway “hey darkie” was one of his songs and he was black? All the women in the shows who were the lead all looked like hallie berry or lighter this shit is deep and not 20 years old

You’re right about that. What I meant was that the conversation on this issue was not as widespread and publicized as it is today. I’m an impatient person, but change takes time. I do think that times are changing for the better for people of color. Just look at the Oscars this year. It’s awesome that Monique won for best supporting actress – although I’m a little pissed that the only time an African-American wins an Oscar it’s for playing someone dysfunctional (e.g., Denzel in Training Day, and Halle in Monster’s Ball). It’s still “the man’s” game, but by the year 2050 “the man” will be the minority in this country! I just hope “we” have our sh*t together by then and have stopped dividing and conquering ourselves from within so that we can make lasting positive change for all. My personal belief is that as long as there are differences between people, we will be divided. It’s human nature. Only by moving towards a racially ambiguous society (which we are) will human beings ultimately be able to live in harmony. Peace!
I hope so,but if we have these “preferences” it will be the “good hair” lights vs the “bad hair” darks i hope we can make it through this experement called the u.s.a.
Props Black for posting this. Unfortunately living in the belly of the beast we are subject to the conditioning it places on us, everything in its society promotes a hate for everything African (read black if you like) from education to children’s toys. It’s no wonder we despise that which is the embodiment of our purest form.
I believe Rich and wesmokeweed have already touched on the cures for this so i don’t need to add to that.
I don’t let my children play with or idolise anything that does not promote a love of self and there will be no relaxer in my house.
I feel you none in my house
im soo lost on how we become so educated that we forget why some shit is the way it is today take a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4zJ_zqCs-M
LMAO @ Bria dreaming anybody would ever say she is gorgeous. Girl pls are u too slow to realize its the ass not the face. we dont dig yor face just ur butt.
And every dark skin girl shouldnt used the phrase ” beautiful for a dark skin girl”
only a few are allowed to say that. i bet u majority of this dark girls have never been told they are beautiful not to talk of “beautiful for a dark skin girl.
I see where your head is at. Well, your comment is void because I DO say that she is gorgeous. I have no doubt that everything those dark skinned girls said is 100% true, and if you cant see the dark truth of it all,you are more deluded that I thought. You’re the type that would take a white 7 over a dark skinned 10 without batting an eyelash. You’re also the type that would do crime in black neighborhoods and kill another black man because you really hate yourself and cant stand to be reminded of your blackness which, sorry to tell you , is stuck with you until the day your impoverished soul leaves this earth.
Mayne it is the ass AND the face.
im white n i love chocolate women yall have tha light ones ill take jeri j n bria n get em preggo anyday
Any black man who looks at Bria Myles and sees an “ugly” girl is a person in denial of hating themselves. Bria IS a gorgeous woman. Her extra dark skin only magnifies that. Light skinned girls come a dime a dozen nowadays. How often do you see rich, radiant, glowing ebony skin like you see on Bria? And the only reason is that all the self loathing black men are selectively breeding out the bloodlines most closely tied to Africa,by actively rejecting dark skinned women. Now, there is nothing wrong at all with lighter skinned women. Like some have falsely claimed here, I see beauty in all the shades of brown. But I think it is pretty obvious that these same people have an unconscious agenda of downplaying the very evident beauty of prominent dark skinned models in favor of less attractive lighter skinned ones. That’s just the truth. Deal with it if you choose. I hope Bria doesn’t visit this site to see all of this unwarranted venom coming from such ignorant, blind and utterly lost lowlifes.
The maliciousness does get taken to another level sometimes.
And as Black pointed out once before, despite all the pro black talk you sometimes hear, darker skinned women often get the “great body, ‘paper bag’ face” treatment on this site
I m white and never thought or heard about this problem (i m from europe). But the clips were very interesting.
Cassidy seems to be right, but I m no camera specialist at all.
