Veronica Webb – First Fashion Honey

There is always a first; someone has to push the door open so others can follow. Veronica Webb has done that for high fashion, by being the first black supermodel

Veronica talks about what it was like in the beginning:

You travel all the time. You see all these new countries. You hear all of these different languages. You eat different food. And you learn to survive on your own…there were advertisers who just weren’t into the concept of a black model. And there just weren’t a lot of us, so there were no great services in terms of hair and make-up in the beginning. You always had to carry your own foundation, and more than likely you were going to wear a wig because there wasn’t anybody who could handle your hair. Plus, you made less money because there was less demand for black models.

Fast forward a bit, and Veronica strives on to win a contract as a spokes model for Revlon, scores 15 high-fashion magazine covers, stars in 8 films including Jungle Fever and Malcolm X, numerous TV shows, and writes for a variety of publications including Interview Magazine and The New York Times. Veronica set the mold for a smart and driven model turned celebrity.

Jones magazine chose Veronica as their cover model for their premiere issue. I know some people want to see naked booty with every post, but sometimes you just got to mix it up.
